Half The Sky pt. 2

All of the stories I felt left a huge impact on me but the first two about Female Genital Cutting and Prostitution stuck out to me the most. I can't choose one over the other. These two stories threw a lot of information about how women are treated and looked at in different parts of the world. It also gives us insights on what the women living in these conditions believe and how some of them have grown used to living the way that they do. I do not believe many people in the United States are fully aware. I do not think these situations are covered as much as they need to be. There was a quote that was said towards the beginning of the documentary, Edna Adan says "Unless they see the reality they'll never understand the severity of the situation."  Social Injustices: Social Class, Poverty, & Health Living in poverty is something that many do not really understand the consequences of what can happen to a person. For example in the materials for the week we get an insight of what the damages of a child living in poverty can face health wise. Many people will think of living in poverty as just living without making as much money as other people. There are more factors to think about in these situations that many do not understand. Living in poverty does not only affect the children's health but the adults as well. If the adults in the household are struggling it makes it so much more difficult for them to meet their children's needs. Dr. Jody VanLaningham  September 5, 2025    What does Social Justice mean to me?      Social justice means creating a world where everyone has equal access to opportunities, resources, and rights. These things should be provided to everyone regardless of their race, gender, income, or identity. Social justice is used to fight against discrimination and help the world pursue the chance for equality of all people no matter their differences. People are commonly being treated different based on minor details of them such as gender, race, sexuality, and more.
