What does Social Justice mean to me?

Social justice means creating a world where everyone has equal access to opportunities, resources, and rights. These things should be provided to everyone regardless of their race, gender, income, or identity. Social justice is used to fight against discrimination and help the world pursue the chance for equality of all people no matter their differences. People are commonly being treated different based on minor details of them such as gender, race, sexuality, and more. Social justice is here to stand up for those people and groups that are put in unfair situations by the system we currently have set up in the world.

The way my understanding of social justice came from personal experience by seeing firsthand the inequality in my community. I have gone through racial discrimination in schools and in public. I have also witnessed my friends being discriminated against just based off the color of their skin. Discrimination does not mean it is just race, the LGBTQ+ community faces a ton of backlash and judgement as well as women in the world facing judgment simply due to their gender.

News: Court upholds Trans and Nonbinary Passport Rights

A federal appeals court just yesterday declined to allow the Trump administration to refuse issuing passports to transgender and nonbinary Americans that reflect their gender identities. Back in 2022 the Biden administration allowed passport applicants to choose "X" as a neutral sex marker on passport applications, as well as being able to select M or F for male or female. This case has to do with social justice because it is about the right that people have to accurately and respectfully represent their identities in government documents. Transgender, nonbinary, and intersex individuals will be the groups who are affected by this. Not allowing transgender, nonbinary, and intersex citizens to choose a marker that represents their identity invalidates their rights and dignity. Other citizens are allowed to get legal documents such as passports without having to go through hoops simply because of their gender.
