LGBTQ+ rights & Women's Rights

LGBTQ+  rights achieved a victory in the Dominican Republic where a rule that was banning gay sex gor members of the police and armed forces. The ban that was set before was used to punish, fire, and humiliate LGBTQ members in the security forces. The ruling to strike down this ban is a huge win because it gives LGBTQ members  the right to be who they are and be with who they choose to be and not have to worry about their preferences ruin their opportunities in their field of work. 

This ruling is a step forward in the right direction but there is still a need to get rid of more forms of discrimination against the LGBTQ community. Everywhere across the world needs to protect their citizens from being harassed, discriminated against by the law, and continue to promote equality.

A group that has supported LGBTQ rights is the Human Rights Campaign. They are one of the largest organization's that have helped provide education and advocacy and continued support of LGBTQ rights. They raise awareness in regards to the inequality and support activist around the world.


Women in Argentina have been dealing with a higher risk of violence including domestic and sexual violence. The government has cut down on programs that were there to protect women and girls. Another issue they are facing are femicides which are the killing of women or girls based on their gender. Women are in danger and do not have the support systems to protect them like they should be. It is awful having to feel like you are not safe simply doing the things others are able to do freely. 

Things that should be done include restoring funds for the programs that provided shelters and protection services. Laws should be put in place or have more added on to help prevent gender based violence. 

As mentioned above the Human Rights Campaign supports gender equality as well as LGBTQ equality. They highlight the danger and threats that women face in many countries. They raise awareness and support international human right protections. This organization pushes for governments to fund programs to keep womena nd other vulnerable groups safe. 


Reading these two articles although they are about different groups it is important to take away the fact that there are groups facing a lot of injustices not just in our country but in multiple different countries. It is important to learn about other countries and the issues they face because we can help spread awareness and fight against these issues together.

Reflections on Religion & Spirituality

Reflections on Religion & Spirituality Three groups that stood out to me were immigrants, LGBTQ+ individuals, as well as foster youth. I think these communities are the ones I feel a stronger sense of understanding and I know the challenges that all three groups face having worked with kids before, knowing immigrant families and the struggles they have been through as well as having many friends who are part of the LGTBQ+ community myself included.  These three groups are constantly faced with instability, exploring their identities, discrimination, trauma, and displacement but I have seen people from these groups come out stronger than they were before and working through all their problems to better their lives.
